Jason L. Coker, of Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA), was sentenced to two years in jail for selling Fentanyl , a powerful painkiller, to two teens who died when they took it with alcohol. I have been warning presecription drug users about the dangers of Fentanyl for some time , and this case highlights the worst of what can happen when the drug is abused.

Friday afternoon, a eight year old from Iowa was killed in a four vehicle crash in southern Minnesota. A number of others were injured. The cause is still under investigation , but speed may have been a contributing factor.
Three young people lost their lives in Brown Summit, North Carolina on February 13, 2010 when Amanda Sperduti, now 21, of Winston-Salem crashed the vehicle she was reportedly driving at 90 mph. Amanda, who was underage at the time, was allegedly heavily intoxicated

According to news paper reports, on July 7, 2010, a vehicle driven by Erick Jerome Curry allegedly crossed the center line of Barron Lake Road and stuck two motorcyclists , killing both of them. Police identified one of the motorcyclists as Carl William Tarrant , the other was not identified at this time.

Car driver allegedly crosses center lane, kills two motorcyclist in Cass County
Two drivers were transported to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina after a collision that occurred around 7:30 on the morning of July 8, 2010 in Rockingham County. Emir Chavez, 24, was travelling north on Business 29 when he fell asleep and crossed into the southbound lane of the highway. He hit a dump truck driven by Edith Cummings

I was reading about the numbers of highway death in Virginia as was pointed out by Injuryboard member Emily Mapp Brannon : July Fourth Weekend Results in 743 Car Crashes, Five Deaths in Virginia , Emily Mapp Brannon | July 07, 2010 7:04 PM What I found interesting was that the number of deaths was the same for Minnesota over the 4th. Also that Ms. Brannon’s discussion about drinking was also right on point for our state.
