MASCOUTAH — A contract worker is in stable condition Thursday after he was crushed when a crane collapsed on him Wednesday afternoon, partially burying him in the dirt.
The man, whose name was not released, was trapped underneath a construction crane about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the end of West Union Street, in a field area on the south end of town, according to Mascoutah Detective Kevin McGinnis.
The Subsurface Constructors worker is in stable condition and doctors are trying to determine how badly his right leg was injured, said Jim Morgan, president of the company where the injured man worked.
“We had a scare,” Morgan said.
Two Subsurface Constructors were working along with other contract workers to install drilled-piered foundations probably for power lines, Morgan said.
It took police, fire and emergency medical services about 25 minutes to free the man.
He suffered a severe leg injury and was flown via Arch helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital.

If you have suffered from an on-the-job injury, make sure the lawyer you hire investigates whether you also have a claim against a “third party,” such as the manufacturer of unsafe equipment, the owner of the premises or vessel where the injury occurred (if different from your employer), or against another company whose employee caused the injury. At the Goidel and Siegel Law Firm in NY, we investigate each aspect of your work-related injury.
